Time comes in

Created at Dec 04, 2024
This exhibition, In Time Space by artist Lee Sukju, invites viewers to uncover their own stories at the turn of the year. Lee has pursued an unwavering exploration of time and existence over the past 40 years, even amidst life’s challenges, offering visitors a renewed perspective on the essence of time. The theme of time, explored by western surrealist artists such as Salvador Dalí, René Magritte, and Yves Tanguy—who delved into its paradoxical, transcendent, and cyclical nature—has been condensed within one space and reimagined through Lee Sukju’s contemplation and hyper-realistic painting techniques. Lee Sukju's works transcend the aesthetics of hyperrealism, seamlessly bridging realism and surrealism. Elements such as a train rushing beneath the face of a white horse and a quietly emerging clock are not mere objects but intimate connections to our lives and narratives. Time permeates these objects, awakening memories and that lingers on the canvas. A fallen leaf evokes the autumns left behind, while a clock revives moments long forgotten. A train becomes a metaphor for journeys taken and those yet to come, and books symbolize both stories read and pages waiting to unfold. Let this exhibition offer a quiet pause to reflect on the year gone by, a chance to embrace the promise of days to come, and a journey into moments of deep contemplation and the essence of life.
